Audi launched its new facelifted version of Audi SQ7 which for most parts looks like the standard Q7. But the ‘S’ here justifies the sportier look of the SQ7 which stands out in looks due to its sport elements, like other ‘S’ models. The badge and name branding is also quite prominent with the ‘SQ7’ being present on the fairly large single-piece grille. The monumentally big 20 inch wheels add to the character of the vehicle.
On the design front, the new version gets these sleek and stylish Matrix HD LED headlamps. The lines and the titanium styling provide a more packed and nimble look to this fairly heavy 2.5 tonne mammoth. The size packs speed and power as well. The 4.0 litre V8 diesel engine produces a devilish 429 horsepower at 900Nm torque which comes at an unbelievably low 1250 RPM. The car brushes 100 kph from nil in about 4.8 sec, thanks to the new twin turbo set up. The car gets two turbos assisted by electric-powered compressor which revs them up instantly, this feature cuts down the turbo lag to a practical zero.
The interior has Audi’s virtual cockpit with all the modern features and high tech dashboard. There is the twin touch displays for controls and the down on the pedals is the stainless steel gives the exuberant effect to the inside that matches with the power and sleek performance of the car. There are features like Sat-nav Directions, Range meter, Trip controller and four zone climate control. Cruise control, speed assist and traffic jam assist are some of the common features with the Q7.
The car is heavy, literally and still performs like it is not. With all the parts and technology that Audi offers, the ‘SQ7’ never actually feels like a conventional SUV while driving. Once you tap the throttle, the ballad begins to perform with song and moves. The car is nimble and agile with fat tyres and electromechanically active anti-roll bars. The electrically charged turbo eats the turbo lag completely and the throttle response is a witness of that. Though the torque kicks in real quick, it is becomes a blast after 2500RPM. The response is thoroughly linear and instantaneous with flat body control and solid grip. A big credit for the ride quality goes to the air suspensions and the iconic Quattro All Wheel Drive System.
Audi SQ7 will tentatively launch in India in October 2020 and will be priced heavy as assumed. The price is supposed to be near Rs1 crore .
